Hi! oh my god so this is my first post on this blog and it is really exciting!
Okay, I will explain the story behind "My Scottish Adventure". A few months ago I got accepted at the University of St Andrews to do my Masters of Letters in English literature. So now I am preparing to leave in 28 days for beautiful Scotland. This will be my blog recounting my year abroad. I want it to be like a journal, a memoir, a postcard for back home, full of photos, notes and hopefully videos (if I have time to edit some decent footage).
And just a quick note, of course my family and friends back home are mostly francophone, therefore I will be alternating between both languages or -when I have time!- posting in both languages.
So before I leave there isn't much interesting thing happening but I did want to set up this blog and discuss my preparations a little bit (and help keep everything in order in my mind).
I am 23 years old and, I am not going to lie, leaving home is really hard. Not because I will now have to clean my own bathroom (cue dry heaves), no because not only am I leaving home for the first time but I am moving all the way across the pond. I think first moving across town might have helped the transition, but, if you know me, I am not one for easy transitions, I go from one extreme to another. French school to Honours English literature in an English speaking institution. Living at home to moving to a completely different continent.
Don't get me wrong I have 'left' home before. I have visited Chile for a few weeks, I have been in exchange in Berlin, Germany, but this is the real thing. I am moving for a whole year and I do believe that all the paperwork I must take care of makes me feel like it is the real deal. SO. MUCH. PAPERWORK. If you have dealt with the loans and bursaries program of Quebec, you know. If you have dealt with the UKBA, you know. If you are an international students at probably any university in the world, you know.
Oh and I also got my flat - yes flat! cause that's how they call it over there ;). Actually okay, it's more or less the truth. It is managed by the university so it is in a way a hall. Internet, phone and furniture is included..yay I don't have to buy furniture (that would have been hell). And I have the BEST flatmate...okay we haven't met yet, but I know! Every day we find out how compatible we are :)
So yeah, a lot of exciting things happening! Before leaving I will try to make a quick video about a few facts I read about St Andrews and also about packing your whole life in two suitcases!
Cheers!
Camila, I'm so excited for you! Can't wait to hear all about your adventures across the pond. Bon voyage!
